BCME 10

Join us for the 10th British Congress of Mathematics Education, a major event on mathematics education and cognitive development — book your place now.

Keynote speakers confirmed so far:
- Andy Noyes — Professor of Education, University of Nottingham. Former Head of the School of Education and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange. Founder of the Observatory for Mathematical Education, former Chair of the Joint Mathematical Council (2018–24), and an advisor on qualifications reform. Andy brings expertise in systems thinking, implementation science, assessment, and policy change.
- Emily Farran — Professor of Cognitive Development, University of Surrey. Director of the Cognition, Genes & Developmental Variability Lab, Emily researches spatial thinking and its impact on maths achievement and translates research into practice (creator of the Spatial Reasoning Toolkit; leader of the SPACE teacher-training programme). Recipient of the 2025 British Psychological Society Impact and Engagement Award.
- Camilla Gilmore — Professor of Mathematical Cognition, Loughborough University and Director of the ESRC Centre for Early Mathematics Learning. Camilla investigates cognitive and environmental influences on numeracy, including executive function and spatial reasoning, and holds fellowships and awards from leading research bodies.
- Bryn Jones — Head of Maths at Newbattle High in Midlothian, is a leading Scottish educator. A Teach First graduate, he’s taught across Fife, Midlothian, and beyond. He pioneers Higher Applications, wrote its textbook, founded ApplyingMaths.com, and champions real-world maths, statistics, and equity in Scotland’s classrooms.
Event Programme
The 2-day event will be packed with over 50 engaging sessions including seminars, symposia, workshops, roundtable discussions, and poster presentations alongside networking opportunities to connect with other researchers and practitioners.
There will also be four keynote sessions, including a presentation from Andy Noyes, Professor of Education at the University of Nottingham and the founding Director of the Observatory for Mathematical Education.

This landmark event will bring together teachers, researchers, and practitioners from across the UK to explore the conference theme: Research and Practice in Partnership. Through shared inquiry and dialogue, BCME 10 seeks to foster meaningful partnerships that enhance both research and classroom practice.
Bursaries
There are 3 Scottish Mathematical Council bursaries available to apply for if you are an educator from Scotland. There are an additional 10 bursaries available for Scottish educators meeting specific requirements. The deadline for bursary applications is 8th July. For more information, visit the bursaries page.
